USTA Southern Section Arkansas

Southern Junior Cup

Each year, the Southern Section sponsors the Southern Junior Cup (formerly Jr. Davis/Fed Cup) team competition. Each of the nine states in the Southern Section sends teams with coaches to compete in this prestigious event that takes place in late September. Twenty-four players will be invited to represent Arkansas in the 12, 14, 16 and 18 age divisions in the Southern Junior Cup competition each year. Six players (three boys and three girls) and four alternates (two boys and two girls) will be selected in each division. In the event that a selected player is unable to participate, the player will be replaced with an alternate. Team coaches will be selected by the ATA Executive Committee in consultation with the Chairman of the Southern Junior Cup Committee.

Rules and Procedures

The team is chosen by a committee consisting of the following individuals:

  • Southern Junior Cup Coordinator
  • Arkansas Junior Ranking Chairman
  • Arkansas Junior Boys Endorser
  • Arkansas Junior Girls Endorser
  • ATA Representative
  • Junior Tennis Council Chairman

The responsibility of the committee is to select the strongest team to represent Arkansas and also to be fair to the players. In choosing the team, sportsmanship is an important consideration. The criteria used for selection to the team are:

  • Results from head to head matches
  • State ranking
  • Sectional ranking
  • National ranking
  • Sportsmanship
  • *Significant Wins (2007 addition)
Player selections will be made the week following the Arkansas Junior State Closed. In order to be selected, a player must have participated in at least two Arkansas sanctioned tournaments during the then current twelve month standing period. This excludes National or Sectional events held in Arkansas (the Little Rock Bullfrog may be included) prior to the date of selection. A waiver does not qualify as participation in an event.
